Last night, voters went to the polls and made a great change: the Education Referendum, or the half-penny sales tax, was passed by voters last night.
What does this mean for schools?
The revenue generated from this sales tax will be used for the following projects:
When students are in functioning classroom environments, they also perform better academically. The recent air conditioning problem on Monday, Nov. 5 can contest for that. With classrooms being hot, both students and teachers were unable to focus and move on with their classroom lessons. With the new sales tax, our school air conditioning can be improved.
Families will pay about $63 a year, according to a median salary of $51, 681. A portion of the sales tax revenue will also come from tourist. The tax will not be applied on groceries or medicine.
The education referendum will last for ten years, so it will take some time for improvements to result. However, Hillsborough County students and educators can now hope for a better future.
